Harry Kane’s perfect penalty record ends with a strange miss after a Wolfsburg player steps on the spot.

Harry Kane’s amazing run of scoring 24 penalty kicks in a row ended today after a Wolfsburg player accidentally stepped on the penalty spot. Kane has been one of the best penalty takers in Europe this 2025/26 season and also one of the top players in world football.
This season, Kane has scored 55 goals and made seven assists in 49 games for Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga champions, which is the best season of his career so far.
In today’s game against Wolfsburg—a match remembered for Michael Olise’s beautiful curling goal in the 56th minute—Kane had the chance to score his 33rd Bundesliga goal this season with his 11th penalty in the league this year.
Kane had scored 24 penalties in a row for Bayern since joining them from Tottenham Hotspur in the 2023/24 season. Olise earned the penalty in the 35th minute, but when Kane took the kick, he surprisingly missed the goal, aiming for the top right corner.
Fans watching on TV noticed that Wolfsburg’s defender Jeanuël Belocian had stepped on the penalty spot just before Kane’s kick, which might have affected the shot. Right after missing, the 32-year-old Kane looked back at the spot, clearly surprised and wondering if the damaged ground had caused the miss.
Wolfsburg are currently 16th in the Bundesliga, six points behind the team just above the drop zone, Werder Bremen. Even though they tampered with the penalty spot while the score was still 0-0, Wolfsburg eventually lost when Olise scored his stunning goal in the second half—a goal that ranks among the best in his growing collection.
Kane’s missed penalty won’t change Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga title win, which is already secured. However, it probably means Kane won’t beat his personal best league goal record. His highest was 36 Bundesliga goals in his first season with Bayern in 2023/24, and now he’s four goals short of that with only one game left.
Kane is no stranger to shining under pressure; he famously beat Everton’s Romelu Lukaku to the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2016/17 season by scoring seven goals in his last two games.
Before Bayern’s recent Champions League loss to PSG, Kane was even a favorite for the Ballon d’Or. Now, he’s looking ahead to the DFB Pokal final against Stuttgart later this month, hoping to win more silverware before the 2026 World Cup.
