Harvey Elliott picks his next club as he agrees on personal terms ahead of a loan move
Harvey Elliott has had a few offers before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, but he has now agreed to personal terms with La Liga team Valencia after some talks.
The 23-year-old returned to Liverpool this summer after a tough time at Aston Villa. Last summer, on deadline day, Elliott went on a season-long loan to Unai Emery’s team, with a deal that meant Valencia would have to buy him for £35 million if he played 10 league games. However, Elliott didn’t get much playing time under Emery — only 277 minutes across the 2025-26 season, with just four Premier League appearances.
Emery said in May, “It’s hard to explain this decision now, but it’s something embarrassing for everyone. I think about apologizing to Harvey Elliott every day.”
Elliott played for Liverpool during pre-season, and new coach Andoni Iraola praised his determination to rebuild his career at Anfield. Still, it looks like another loan might be coming up. According to Marca’s Matteo Moretto, Elliott has spoken with Iraola and wants to join Valencia, and talks between the clubs are “very advanced.” Italian clubs Napoli and Lazio were also interested, but after lots of rumors, Fabrizio Romano confirmed Elliott agreed personal terms with Valencia.
Before Liverpool’s game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Iraola was honest when asked about Elliott’s future at the club. Elliott wasn’t in the squad, along with Federico Chiesa, who is also linked with a move this summer.
Iraola said, “With Harvey, with Luke Chambers, and some others I left out because I can only pick 20 players, it’s about balancing the bench. Harvey is trying and getting better every week, but I chose other options. I was deciding between Harvey and James McConnell, and I picked James this time. But it’s a new week with new chances, and they have to keep that mindset.”
