“He did that!” Max Verstappen shouts at Lewis Hamilton after a scary mistake
Max Verstappen was really upset with Lewis Hamilton after they almost crashed during the final practice session at the Italian Grand Prix.
The 2026 Formula One season is moving along, and this Sunday the famous Monza Circuit will host the 13th race of the year. On Saturday morning, the last practice session before the race took place, and things got heated quickly when Hamilton seemed to cut in front of Verstappen, nearly causing a big crash.
As Hamilton tried to get ahead of Verstappen before their final fast laps, the two came dangerously close to each other on the straight. Surprisingly, Verstappen even gave Hamilton a thumbs-up in the on-board footage as they crossed the line.
But just moments later, Verstappen was angry on the team radio after a near collision when he made a late move into the first chicane. “He caused that,” Verstappen said. Hamilton also blamed Verstappen, saying, “I got blocked by Max, so…” Hamilton’s race engineer, Carlo Santi, responded, “Yes, we saw.”
Because of the incident, both drivers decided not to finish their last lap. The FIA noted what happened but said they wouldn’t punish either driver.
Even though there was no penalty, Verstappen wasn’t happy later that afternoon. He kept complaining on the radio about Red Bull’s car. Despite being third fastest in the final practice, he said his engine didn’t have enough power, jokingly telling his engineer, “Mate, I have less power than a Fiat Punto!”
Still, Verstappen is one of the top contenders to win the Italian Grand Prix, especially with current championship leader and crowd favorite Kimi Antonelli starting from the back due to a grid penalty.
