Here’s how much Shakira, Madonna, and BTS will earn for the World Cup final half-time show.

Here’s some exciting news about the halftime show at this summer’s World Cup final! Pop stars Shakira, Madonna, and the Korean boyband BTS will be performing at the big event on July 19th at MetLife Stadium. For the first time ever, the halftime show will be similar to the big, flashy one you see at the Super Bowl.
Chris Martin from Coldplay is putting the show together. FIFA’s president, Gianni Infantino, said last year that it will be “a show worthy of the biggest sporting event in the world.” This is a bit like last year’s Club World Cup final at the same stadium, where Tems, J Balvin, and Doja Cat performed—though many fans wished the show wasn’t so long back then. This time, the acts will perform for about 11 minutes.
Shakira’s return will definitely bring back good memories for many of us who loved her 2010 hit “Waka-Waka.”
Interestingly, none of the performers will be paid for their time. According to The Athletic, they’ll donate their performance to support a social justice group called Global Citizen. This is similar to the Super Bowl, where artists also don’t get paid but use the huge audience to boost their exposure.
The 2022 World Cup final drew an incredible 1.42 billion viewers worldwide, so this show will have a massive audience. Infantino said the music of Madonna, Shakira, and BTS “crosses borders and generations,” and the show will focus on celebrating football, not making money.
He said, “Madonna, Shakira, and BTS are global icons whose music unites people everywhere. We’re proud to welcome them to the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show, curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay. On July 19, the world will come together for football’s biggest match, and this special event will also support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. It’s about football, unity, and humanity—and it will leave a lasting impression long after the final whistle.”
