iShowSpeed’s reaction to Argentina’s win against Egypt goes viral after he tries to distract Lionel Messi
Social media star iShowSpeed’s live reaction to Argentina’s big comeback win over Egypt in the World Cup has gone viral. Speed was in the crowd in Atlanta as Argentina turned things around from being 2-0 down to winning 3-2 and reaching the quarter-finals.
Egypt took the early lead with goals from Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Ziko, and even had another goal ruled out for offside. But with just 79 minutes played, Spurs defender Cristian Romero scored for Argentina, bringing them back into the game. Then Messi wowed the crowd with a fantastic left-footed shot that the Egypt goalkeeper couldn’t stop.
In stoppage time, Enzo Fernandez headed the winning goal, sending the Argentina fans into a wild celebration.
On the other hand, Speed, who’s a big Cristiano Ronaldo fan, wasn’t happy. He had just watched Ronaldo’s Portugal get knocked out by Spain and was hoping Messi would lose too. He even tried to distract Messi before the Argentina captain missed a penalty earlier in the game — his second missed penalty in this World Cup.
When Argentina scored the winning goal, Speed was shocked. He threw his hands up and looked around the stadium in disbelief, asking, “What do I do?” While standing still and wearing an Egypt shirt, a woman nearby shouted something at him. After the game, some Argentina fans behind him teased him, and FIFA is now looking into a case of racist abuse aimed at Speed.
Speed was right behind the goal during the first half, so he got a close view of Messi’s missed penalty. At 38 years old, Messi now holds the record for missing two penalties in one World Cup, but that’s not something he’s worried about since Argentina moved on. In fact, Messi became the first player to score in six straight World Cup knockout matches. He’s also leading the Golden Boot race with eight goals, ahead of France’s Mbappe and Norway’s Haaland, who both have seven.
Before Messi missed the penalty, Speed tried to catch his attention with some gestures and looked just as stunned by Argentina’s comeback as he did during the penalty miss.
