Jake Paul shares surprising plans for a new career during his time away from boxing
Jake Paul has shared that he’s thinking about switching things up and trying out a new sport, and he’s already got some offers on the table. After making a name for himself on YouTube, Jake jumped into boxing on August 25, 2018, when he fought Deji, KSI’s younger brother, in an amateur match in Manchester.
Since then, Jake has become one of the biggest names in boxing, scoring wins against big fighters like Nate Diaz, Mike Perry, and Mike Tyson. But in his last fight in December, he broke both jaws after a knockout loss to Anthony Joshua.
Since that tough loss, Jake has been pretty quiet about boxing and hasn’t said if or when he’ll return to the ring. Now, he’s excited to share that he wants to try his hand at American football. He even says he could join the NFL once he’s done with boxing.
Talking to Front Office Sports, he said, “It’s pretty simple. Just like when I started boxing, it’s funny to see people doubting me. Shout out to Drake. There’s a lot of average players in the NFL who drop passes a lot. I have better hands, I’m faster, stronger, and work harder than them. After boxing, I just need to practice running routes.”
Even though Jake seems confident, it’s hard to picture him easily making an NFL team since he doesn’t have pro football experience and is already 29 years old. But he says he’s already having talks with some teams and coaches who are interested in giving him a shot.
He added, “I’ve talked to a couple of teams and coaches who want to bring me on. It’s going to be pretty easy.” When asked which team he’d like to play for, he had a clear answer: the Cleveland Browns.
“I’ve been a Browns fan my whole life. My mom’s a big Browns fan too, and I think they could really use some good receivers. So, number 17 for the Browns—reserve that jersey now! Thanks.”
Jake’s latest comments come after he mentioned back in June that he wants to play football and thinks he could do well as a slot receiver. He also said he might try to get some experience playing college football with the Stanford Cardinal before aiming for the NFL.
