Jannik Sinner shares an emotional message confirming his 2026 season is finished
Jannik Sinner has shared that his 2026 season will end early because of a knee injury. Although he kept his Wimbledon crown, this year has been tough for him. Now, he and his doctors have decided it’s best to stop playing for the season and focus on treatment.
Sinner had to pull out of the US Open because of his injury, finishing the year with just one Grand Slam final appearance after playing in all four last year.
On Tuesday, Sinner spoke directly to his fans on social media. “I want to give you a quick update,” he said in an Instagram video. “After talking with the doctors, we decided I need treatment on my knee, so the 2026 season is officially over.”
He hasn’t played since winning Wimbledon in July, sitting out because of inflammation in his right knee. Missing the rest of the season also means he can’t try for a third straight US Open final.
“The last couple of years, especially finishing strong in Turin, gave me amazing feelings,” he added. “But this year is going to be different. Right now, I have to think about my long-term career. I’ll do my best to come back fully healthy. Thank you all in advance for your support—I hope to be back on court very soon.”
The 25-year-old has had a frustrating year both on and off the court. After winning four Grand Slam titles in 2024 and 2025, reaching two more finals, and always making at least the quarterfinals, he started 2026 by reaching the Australian Open semi-finals, where Novak Djokovic beat him. Djokovic later lost the final to Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner’s run at the French Open ended in the second round against Juan Manuel Cerundolo in five sets. But his highlight of the year was defending his Wimbledon title, where he fought through tough matches, including wins over Miomir Kecmanovic, Nuno Borges, JT Brooksby, Shintaro Mochizuki, Jan-Lennard Struff, Novak Djokovic, and Alexander Zverev.
Since Wimbledon, Sinner hasn’t returned to competition, so it makes sense that his team wants to focus on healing his knee before 2026 ends.
Fans can look forward to seeing him back on court once he’s fully recovered!
