Jimmy Fallon shares a friendly message with Martin Brundle after a funny moment during the F1 grid walk.
Jimmy Fallon sent a fun message to Martin Brundle after a strange moment during his grid walk interview at the Miami Grand Prix.
Martin Brundle, a Formula One legend, has been doing his famous grid walk interviews for over 25 years. He’s had many interesting chats with big celebrities along the way. Since 1997, Brundle has made the grid walk a highlight of each race, with fans eager to see who he might meet.
Over the years, Brundle’s interviews have gone viral when he spoke with stars like Ozzy Osbourne, Megan Thee Stallion, Kylian Mbappe, and Pep Guardiola. But maybe the weirdest or most awkward moment came at last weekend’s Miami Grand Prix during his talk with American TV host Jimmy Fallon.
When Brundle asked Fallon for some “funny lines,” Fallon surprised him by biting the top of Brundle’s Sky F1 microphone and tearing it off! Brundle was clearly shocked by this odd move and later shared his thoughts on social media, joking: “In 30 years of broadcasting, I’ve never wondered what a branded microphone sock tastes like. Some people are very funny.”
On a recent episode of The Tonight Show, Fallon talked about his time at the Miami Grand Prix and mentioned Brundle. He said, “They have something called the grid where you go out onto the track before the race and do about 20 interviews with reporters from all over the world. Martin Brundle, by the way, your microphone tastes delicious.”
Later, when Fallon appeared on Sky Sports sitting in the Mercedes garage during the race’s formation lap, Brundle made a joke about him, saying, “That’s my new friend from the gridwalk.”
One memorable moment Brundle will always remember is his 2021 US Grand Prix interview with rapper Megan Thee Stallion. When he asked if she had a rap for Formula One, she said no, and one of her team told Brundle, “You can’t do this.” Brundle replied without missing a beat, “I can do that because I did.”
A year later in Miami, Brundle had an embarrassing moment when he mistook NBA star Paolo Banchero for NFL star Patrick Mahomes. Brundle later explained, “It’s not Patrick — that’s why he ignored me.” The two met again in 2023, and Banchero said, “I’m honored you know my name now. You’re great at what you do.”
These fun and unexpected moments show just how unpredictable and entertaining Brundle’s grid walk interviews can be!
