Jon Rahm shares his final choice about playing in LIV Golf as an important deadline gets closer
Jon Rahm is expected to make a big announcement soon about whether he’ll stay with LIV Golf, as the league worries it might lose one of its top players.
Back in April, it was revealed that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will stop supporting LIV Golf after the 2026 season. This news made many people question the future of the league and what will happen to some of its biggest stars.
Rahm, a two-time major winner, is one of LIV’s biggest names. He officially joined the circuit in 2024, signing a huge deal worth more than £450 million. Despite efforts by LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil to find new investors, the league’s future is still unclear, with the last event of the 2026 season coming up at the end of August.
Now, there are growing worries inside LIV Golf that Rahm might decide to leave. According to The Telegraph, people close to the league feel it’s almost certain Rahm will announce his plans after the 2026 season ends in a few weeks. Even if O’Neil manages to secure new funding, Rahm reportedly isn’t happy with the new plan that would cut the season to just 10 events and lower prize money.
While nothing is set in stone, all signs suggest Rahm is likely to leave LIV Golf. The DP World Tour is getting more confident that he’ll be back playing with them from 2027. It’s said they’ve already been informed about Rahm’s expected decision.
Earlier this year, Rahm settled all fines with the DP World Tour, which allowed him to return to their events this season and in 2027.
If Rahm leaves LIV, it would be a big blow for the league, as he would follow other big names like Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed who left recently. Rahm still has a few years left on his LIV contract, with the league reportedly owing him around $200 million. If he walks away, they’ll likely negotiate a deal to reduce that amount or maybe convert it into shares if the league continues.
When asked about losing key players, O’Neil stayed cautious, saying the league would love to keep them because they’re important to the game and he respects them a lot.
