Jose Mourinho and Florentino Perez team up for an exciting transfer to boost Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho is getting ready to return to Real Madrid, and exciting plans are already underway for a big transfer to kick things off at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly made a deal with Mourinho, who managed the team from 2010 to 2013 and led them to the title in the 2011-12 season.
Mourinho usually comes with some big requests. After all, you can’t make a Spanish omelette without breaking a few hundred million eggs! Both Mourinho and Perez seem to agree that bringing in a top Ballon d’Or-winning midfield star should be their main goal.
According to TEAMtalk, “Both Mourinho and Perez believe Real never really replaced the leadership and control that Toni Kroos and Luka Modric gave the team.” Real Madrid is eager to sign Rodri from Manchester City, and Mourinho supports this plan, even though not everyone at the club agrees with his return.
The 29-year-old midfielder is signed with Man City until 2027. TEAMtalk says, “Mourinho sees Rodri as the perfect player to bring authority and balance to the midfield, and Perez believes the Spanish star has what it takes to become the heart of the new Real Madrid team.”
Born in Madrid, Rodri is considered one of the world’s best midfielders. He won the Ballon d’Or in 2024 after helping City win their first Champions League and achieve a historic treble in the 2022-23 season. This is exactly the kind of player Real Madrid needs as they start a new chapter following a season without trophies.
With three matches left in the 2025-26 La Liga season, Real Madrid is already gearing up for a big offseason. Head coach Alvaro Arbeloa is expected to be replaced by his former boss, amid reports of fights between players during training.
Perez tried to calm things down by holding an emergency press conference on Tuesday. He pushed back against rumors about his future, announced new presidential elections at the Bernabeu, and had a tense exchange with a journalist.
He said, “There’s a ridiculous campaign against me. People ask ‘Where is Florentino?’ just because I don’t talk much. They even say I’m sick or have terminal cancer. I’m still leading Real Madrid and ACS. My health is perfect,” said the 79-year-old.
