Lando Norris’ new contract signing bonus is one of the coolest presents in F1 history.
Lando Norris has happily signed a new long-term contract with McLaren, and while his big paycheck is impressive, it’s not the coolest part of the deal.
After getting back to winning in Formula 1, Lando has firmly planted his future with McLaren for many years ahead. As the reigning world champion, he’s truly a McLaren guy. With questions floating around Max Verstappen’s future and talks about him possibly joining McLaren, some wondered if Norris might have to move on. But both drivers are staying put—Verstappen recently signed a huge deal with Red Bull, and now Norris has earned a nice raise.
Norris’ new contract keeps him at McLaren until 2030, reportedly paying him around £60 million a year, which makes him the third-highest-paid driver after Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. But here’s the real treat: Norris was also gifted a special car as part of his deal, and it’s one of the coolest gifts a world champion could get.
McLaren gave Norris the MCL39, the very car he raced when he won the F1 Drivers’ Championship in 2025. In a statement to Planet F1, McLaren explained this gift will remind everyone of his key role in winning the team’s second straight constructors’ title and becoming McLaren’s first Drivers’ Champion since 2008.
Usually, McLaren keeps legendary cars at their headquarters in Woking, UK, but this one will be sitting in Norris’ own garage. It’s rare for drivers to get to keep official F1 cars, and McLaren’s boss Zak Brown owns one of the biggest collections of retired race cars.
Even though Norris was the fastest driver on the track in the 2025/26 season, his car collection isn’t as big as some veterans like Fernando Alonso’s—but it’s definitely growing. McLaren has already added some incredible rides to his garage like the 765LT Spider, P1, and Senna. Norris himself has collected a Rolls-Royce Wraith, Ferrari F40, Shelby Cobra 427, and a classic Fiat 500 Jolly.
Before getting the MCL39, Norris’ car collection was worth around £10 million. With his new £60 million-a-year salary, there’s no doubt his collection will keep on growing!
