Leandro Trossard’s move away from Arsenal is a surprising transfer that caught everyone off guard.
Leandro Trossard is set to leave Arsenal in the next few days after a great World Cup showing. The Premier League transfer window has been open for a while, and many clubs have already made big moves to get ready for the 2026/27 season. Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City have spent a lot of money on new players to make their teams stronger.
Arsenal, the current Premier League champions, have been quieter so far. Though they’ve been linked with players like Bruno Guimarães, Morgan Rogers, and Julián Alvarez, they haven’t made any big signings yet. So far, only Piero Hincapié, who was on loan last season from Bayer Leverkusen, and goalkeeper Illan Meslier from Leeds United have joined the Gunners this summer.
But Arsenal haven’t been inactive. It’s now confirmed they’ve agreed to sell Trossard to Turkish club Besiktas. Trossard came to Arsenal from Brighton for £21 million plus extras, and his contract ends next year. While he hasn’t been a star at Arsenal, scoring 36 goals and providing 34 assists in 174 games, his great performance for Belgium at the World Cup has helped him secure this move.
Arsenal will get €18 million plus €2 million in add-ons from the deal. According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have accepted Besiktas’ offer, and Trossard is expected to fly to Istanbul tomorrow for a medical and to sign his new contract. Ben Jacobs reports the winger will stay at Besiktas until 2029, with the option to extend for one more year, earning about €9 million a year, or roughly £147,660 a week.
With Trossard leaving soon, Arsenal fans will be wondering who might come in to strengthen their attack. Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has been a top target, but with Villa reportedly asking for around £130 million, Arsenal might look elsewhere. One option is Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, another player linked with a move to Arsenal this summer. The Frenchman is frustrated with his playing time under Luis Enrique and wants to leave.
Liverpool are also interested in Barcola, but with Trossard’s departure, Arsenal could speed up their efforts to sign him. However, PSG have recently told Arsenal, Liverpool, and other clubs that Barcola is not for sale anymore, so if Arsenal want him, they will need to make a very strong offer.
