Lewis Hamilton’s angry radio messages during the Dutch Grand Prix say a lot

Lewis Hamilton clashed with his Ferrari team again after the seven-time world champ got frustrated over the race strategy that cost him a lot of time. He even questioned on the team radio if he was being treated like a ‘guinea pig.’

Formula 1 is back after the summer break, and the Dutch Grand Prix didn’t disappoint. Early on, home favourite Max Verstappen spun and crashed out of the race, ending his last Zandvoort race on a tough note. Despite some warnings, the crash still came as a shock.

Lando Norris, after falling behind Kimi Antonelli at the red-flag restart, used a smart Plan B strategy to take the lead and race to a solid win. This victory moved Norris up to second in the standings, closing the gap with Antonelli.

But Hamilton was the main talking point. During the race, he sent some sharp messages over the radio, expressing his frustration. He finished just half a second off the podium.

George Russell snagged the last podium spot, only a second ahead of Ferrari’s Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. The race could have gone differently, especially since Hamilton was stuck behind Leclerc for a while and kept asking the team for orders instead of risking a risky pass.

“I’m quicker than Charles. My tyres are better,” Hamilton said. Then he added, “We’re just losing time!” After finally getting past Leclerc, he told the team, “Great way of wasting time, guys. Great job.”

Later in the race, Hamilton got even more annoyed when Ferrari kept him on hard tyres, even as he lost two seconds a lap to those behind. He asked, “Are you using me as a guinea pig or what? What’s going on? How long will you keep me out?”

Ferrari got a lucky break with a virtual safety car, helping Hamilton avoid more frustration just as Norris and Antonelli passed him. This gave him a chance to switch to fresh tyres and go for a podium spot. But a second virtual safety car late in the race stopped him from passing Russell.

Russell defended well on the final lap to keep third place. For Hamilton, though, the race felt like a missed opportunity. He fell further behind Antonelli in the championship and let Lando Norris join the title fight.

This isn’t the first time Hamilton has shown his anger on the radio. The 2025/26 season was full of disagreements, and tensions with Ferrari flared again earlier this year during the Chinese GP.
