Lisandro Martinez gets a big round of applause from the CBS studio for his answer to ‘who is your favorite pundit on the show?’
Micah Richards asked Manchester United’s Lisandro Martínez to name his favorite member of the CBS Sports pundit team, and his answer — “I like to watch quality players” — is quickly going viral.
United kicked off their Champions League journey with a 4-0 win over Azerbaijan Premier League side Sabah on Thursday, thanks to goals from Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Šeško, and Martínez.
It was a special night for Martínez, as he scored his very first goal at Old Trafford.
After the game, the Argentine was in high spirits. During a post-match interview with CBS, when Richards asked his usual favorite pundit question, Martínez had a fun reply.
He quickly showed his respect for former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry, which didn’t exactly sit well with Richards and Jamie Carragher. Carragher joked, “What about us defenders?”
Without skipping a beat, Martínez said, “I like to watch quality players.”
Richards also asked Martínez if he used to watch Carragher and what he thought of the former Liverpool defender, who has been one of Martínez’s toughest critics.
Martínez made everyone laugh again, saying, “As a player? Good person.”
At first, Carragher was skeptical about United’s £56.7 million signing of Martínez. After United lost their first two Premier League games in 2022, Carragher doubted Martínez would work in a back four because he’s only 5ft 9in tall.
He said on Sky Sports, “Maybe he could play left-back or in a back three, but in a back four, I don’t think he can handle it in the Premier League.”
However, Martínez proved to be one of United’s best players throughout the season. In May 2023, Carragher apologized on Sky, saying, “He’s a warrior and a leader. He and Casemiro have really changed Man Utd. So sorry, Lisandro Martínez and Man United fans — you can stop tweeting me now!”
