Liverpool fans want the player to never play for the team again after his performance against Leeds.
Liverpool fans are calling for the club to sell a first-team player right away after his performance in the Reds’ 4-2 pre-season loss to Leeds United in Chicago.
Liverpool looked strong under coach Andoni Iraola, going into halftime 2-0 up thanks to goals from Luke Chambers and Florian Wirtz. But Leeds fought back hard in the second half, with Brenden Aaronson and former Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin leveling the score at 2-2 with about 20 minutes left. Then, Leeds took the lead at 3-2 with a smart finish from Sean Longstaff, and Calvert-Lewin scored again to make it 4-2 near the end at Soldier Field.
Many Liverpool fans were unhappy with the team’s poor second-half performance and want new players brought in before the Premier League season starts. Iraola ended the game with a back four made up of Calvin Ramsay, Ifeanyi Ndukwe, Mor Talla Ndiaye, and Kostas Tsimikas.
Several fans pointed fingers at Curtis Jones, saying he was to blame for Leeds’ third goal because he didn’t block Longstaff’s shot. One fan said, “Curtis Jones is overrated and just average. He holds on to the ball too much. Sell him tomorrow @lfc.” Another added, “I don’t get why Curtis Jones was captain after Wrexham. His attitude and performance tonight were really bad! Sell him for whatever we can get.”
Other fans shared similar thoughts: one said Jones plays sloppy and seems distracted; another criticized his decision-making and injuries, saying he needs to prove himself and not argue with teammates; but some fans defended him, saying everyone has bad days and times when they’re off, especially with contract issues. They urged the club to sort his contract and support him, reminding everyone of his top talent.
On a brighter note, Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Alisson Becker, and new signing Victor Munoz will join their new head coach this week at the AXA Training Centre. Alexis Mac Allister has also been given extra time off after helping Argentina reach the World Cup final.
Liverpool is back from their U.S. tour this week and will play pre-season games against AS Monaco and Como before starting the Premier League season with a match away at Newcastle United on August 23.
