Liverpool find out Crystal Palace’s asking price for Ismaila Sarr, and it says a lot
Liverpool is still looking for another winger after signing Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. One player they’re interested in is Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.
After a long summer of talks, Liverpool agreed on a huge £120 million deal for 23-year-old Barcola, who is now getting ready to sign a five-year contract at Anfield. Barcola was the top choice for manager Andoni Iraola to help replace the legendary Mohamed Salah, so now that he’s coming in, Liverpool can focus on other signings.
Just after their 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, news came out that winger Cody Gakpo is close to moving to Manchester City for about £85 million. He turned down Tottenham’s offer and has agreed on personal terms with City, but he can only leave Liverpool once they sign someone new to take his place.
Liverpool also tried to sign Yankuba Minteh from Brighton, but their offers of £50m and £60m were rejected since Brighton wants £80m for the 22-year-old. The same kind of situation is happening with Ismaila Sarr. Crystal Palace has said no to two offers, including one for £50m, but the deal might still move forward.
Football expert Lamine Camara shared that Liverpool will send a new offer for Sarr in the next couple of days. This new bid could be between €75m (£64m) and €80m (£68m), which would make him the most expensive Senegalese player ever in the English league. This shows how eager Liverpool is to add a forward before the transfer window closes on September 1. Palace knows this and is asking for a higher price.
Last season, Sarr scored over 20 goals and helped Palace win the Europa Conference League, so manager Pierre Sage really wants to keep him. But Liverpool sees him as a strong fit because of his speed, power, and ability to score. Sarr can play in different forward positions too, making him very versatile.
If all goes well, Sarr might join Liverpool soon, allowing Gakpo to move to City. After the Forest game, Iraola said there are things happening behind the scenes with transfers but didn’t give details. He added that they’ll have a clearer idea of the squad after the window closes on September 2, and then they can focus on the season ahead.
