Liverpool decide on bringing Trent Alexander-Arnold back as Real Madrid clearly share their thoughts on the transfer.

Liverpool have reportedly made up their minds about whether to try and bring Trent Alexander-Arnold back after Real Madrid said they are willing to sell him for the right price.

Alexander-Arnold, 28, left Liverpool for Real Madrid in 2025, which upset many fans since the Reds had just won the Premier League. Since moving to Spain, things haven’t gone smoothly for him—he’s had several injuries and only played 30 games in all competitions his first season. Real Madrid also had a tough time, missing out on trophies again.

Because of these struggles, Real Madrid fired Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa and brought back Jose Mourinho, who managed the team from 2010 to 2013. Right now, Real Madrid is six points behind Barcelona in La Liga, and Alexander-Arnold seems to be the third-choice right-back, behind Denzel Dumfries and midfielder Fede Valverde. He’s only started three times this season and appeared just six times in total.

This lack of playing time has made Alexander-Arnold think about his future. Last summer, there were talks about him returning to the Premier League, with clubs like Newcastle and Liverpool interested, but nothing happened. He’s under contract with Real Madrid until 2031, but reports say the club might sell him to cut their losses if they get a good offer.

However, a comeback to Liverpool doesn’t seem likely. Journalist Peter O’Rourke explained that while there’s always talk about him and Liverpool, nothing real is happening. Alexander-Arnold was great for Liverpool before joining Madrid but has struggled to secure a regular spot under Mourinho—Valverde is even picked ahead of him sometimes. So, people always wonder what will happen with him.

Other English clubs like Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea have reportedly been watching him too.

Alexander-Arnold shared that he’s visited Liverpool to see his family several times since moving and still watches every Liverpool game because the club means a lot to him. He said he often meets other Scousers and Reds while traveling, and real-life interactions are much kinder than the harsh comments online. He knows not everyone in Liverpool is happy about his move, but he tries not to let negativity get to him.

He added, “I support them and want to see them do well. Liverpool will always have a place in my heart. It’s my home—the club that gave me my break.”

Interestingly, Trent even came on as a substitute for Real Madrid against Liverpool at Anfield during the 2025/26 Champions League season.
