Liverpool is chatting about a swap deal to make their first signing for Andoni Iraola.
Last year, Liverpool focused a lot on signing new players during the summer transfer window. But after a tough 2025-26 season, their top priority now is finding a new manager to replace Arne Slot.
Liverpool decided to let Slot go after finishing fifth, a big drop from their recent Premier League success. Although there were some reasons behind the struggles, Slot faced criticism from star player Mohamed Salah. Plus, Liverpool just barely qualified for the Champions League, which was disappointing after spending so much money on new players last summer.
The favorite to take over is Andoni Iraola, the former Bournemouth manager. He’s expected to bring his own style to the team. Iraola is close to joining Liverpool, a club that is also talking about new transfers with other Champions League teams.
One of those talks involves Inter Milan, who want to sign Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones for next season. The two clubs are far apart on the transfer fee, but Jones has only one year left on his contract and seems interested in moving to Italy. According to reports, Liverpool wants €30 million, which is €10 million more than Inter is ready to pay. Still, Jones prefers moving to Italy over staying in England, even though Newcastle is also interested.
Liverpool could use their interest in Inter’s right-back Denzel Dumfries as part of the deal. Last summer, they signed Jeremie Frimpong, who’s not a typical right-back, especially when attacking. Liverpool will also benefit from Conor Bradley returning from injury. Reports say the Reds might pay Dumfries’ €25 million release clause. The wing-back is eager for a new challenge, and talks between the clubs have already happened.
If all goes well, Liverpool could sign Dumfries for €25 million, while Jones moves to Inter for the same price, making both clubs happy.
