Liverpool upset deadline day transfer plans and ask club to ‘hold on’ in surprising scenes
Liverpool caused a surprise twist on transfer deadline day, according to some eye-opening reports. The Reds wrapped up their signings by bringing in 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Belgian club Genk for £30 million. This followed their big £123 million deal for Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, plus new additions Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, and Ronald Araujo, who joined on loan from Barcelona.
Many fans were hoping for a new central midfielder, but Liverpool didn’t bring one in this window. However, it seems they already have a player in mind for next year and have reached out to both him and his club to keep the door open.
Monaco’s midfielder Lamine Camara looked set to join Chelsea as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who moved to Manchester City for a record £125 million. Everything seemed sorted—Chelsea agreed a £47 million fee, Camara passed his medical, and agreed a six-year contract. But at the last minute, Monaco pulled out, upsetting Chelsea who called it “deeply unprofessional.” Camara was left stuck in the middle.
Journalist Ben Jacobs shared on talkSPORT that Liverpool made calls to both Camara and Monaco, telling them to hold off for now. Liverpool aren’t interested in signing Camara this season but suggested they might come back for him in 2027. Monaco wants €70 million for the player, and while they had to lower the price for Chelsea, Liverpool believe the full amount is fair.
Chelsea’s bid for Camara ended in disappointment, and another deal involving Folarin Balogun also fell through. Balogun was set to join Everton, but after medical issues and some loan talks with Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee fell flat, Balogun changed his mind and left Everton’s training ground without signing, according to journalist David Ornstein.
