Luke Littler challenges Eddie Hearn after the date for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury is set
Luke Littler has shared his frustration about scheduling the Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua fight on the same day as the opening of the PDC World Darts Championship.
On Thursday, it was confirmed that the big fight will happen at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday, December 11. The event is expected to start that evening, although promoter Eddie Hearn mentioned the main fight might not begin until 1:00am UK time, meaning it could go into the early hours of Saturday.
At the same time, the PDC World Darts Championship will kick off on December 11 at Alexandra Palace in London, which is four days earlier than last year’s start. The darts sessions usually begin around 12:30pm, with evening rounds starting at 7pm, so some players might miss part of the big fight.
Luke Littler, the current darts champion, might be one of those affected, and he’s not happy about it. On Thursday night, he posted on Instagram, questioning the decision and calling out the Hearn family. He said, “A message to the Hearns, what is this? Opening night of the World Championship (the World champ plays that night) and you put one of Britain’s biggest fights on the same evening. You had one job.”
Eddie Hearn, who made it clear the fight wouldn’t happen in the US, thanked fans on social media for their support of Anthony Joshua and said he’s “forever indebted” to the UK public. However, Hearn is still annoyed about a mix-up.
There’s a press conference planned for London on September 30, but Hearn is upset because a press release mentioned Dana White working with Alalshikh on the fight, which will stream live on Netflix. Talking to IFL TV, Hearn said, “The mess around this fight — and Netflix putting out a release saying Dana White’s involved — that’s not happening. There are still lots to sort out.”
He added that he’ll be speaking to Netflix to remind them of their contract and handle the issue like before. “These people make things really hard. We’re supposed to have a press event next week, but now we’ve got other problems to fix.”
