Here’s a friendly update on Major Jake Hager’s health after his eye leaked blood from a surprising injury during Power Slap.
Here’s some hopeful news about former WWE champion Jake Hager after a scary injury during a Power Slap event caused his eye to leak blood.
Jake, who won the World Heavyweight Championship in 2010 as Jack Swagger, was competing in Texas when he suffered what Dana White, head of UFC and Power Slap, called “probably the worst injury” he’d ever seen. Right after the hit, Jake’s eye started leaking blood.
The injury happened during his third Power Slap match against Johnny Magna on September 17. Dana White said live that it looked like Jake’s tear duct had ruptured, and doctors were amazed since they hadn’t seen anything like it before.
Jake’s partner, Patricia Blackburn, who also fights in Power Slap, shared that he had emergency eye surgery soon after. Now, it’s been reported that Jake has a globe rupture and a serious tear in his eye, but he’s regained some vision. The exact amount of vision he’s gotten back isn’t clear yet. He might need more surgeries to fully heal.
A globe rupture means the eye’s wall is badly damaged, usually from a hard hit or injury. It’s a serious problem, but fortunately, a sports doctor online named Brian Sutterer explained that with proper treatment, many people can recover their sight.
He also warned there’s a risk if Jake keeps competing in Power Slap, saying, “Hopefully, he doesn’t go out there and try to slap any more because once you’ve been through this once, why tempt fate a second time?”
Right now, we don’t know if Jake plans to keep competing in Power Slap or any other combat sports. But for now, it’s good to hear there’s some vision restored and hope for his recovery.
