Man United is on high alert as a World Cup star’s contract clause has been activated.
Manchester United might need to move quickly because one of their top transfer targets has had his price cut after a special clause was triggered in his contract.
Michael Carrick is planning to strengthen several parts of the Man United squad this summer. He’s already agreed to bring in Ederson from Atalanta for £35 million. Ederson, who just signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford, is expected to join the team officially in July once the World Cup wraps up.
The 26-year-old is just one of the players Carrick wants to bring to Carrington. Man United even talked about making Elliot Anderson captain before he surprised everyone by joining Manchester City in a record £116 million deal.
With Anderson’s big move to City, United are now focusing on other midfield options and looking to add more goal threat up front.
Earlier this week, it came out that United have made West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville their top target. West Ham originally wanted £70 million for him, but thanks to a relegation release clause, the price has dropped to £40 million.
INEOS have also heard about this and might try to sign the Dutch winger, who impressed at the World Cup before the Netherlands were knocked out by Morocco in the last 32.
Summerville scored two goals and made two assists in the tournament, building on a strong season for West Ham where he was involved in 15 goals.
Even though West Ham didn’t have the best season, Summerville showed he can win matches and now looks ready to play for a Champions League club.
His great Premier League form hasn’t just caught United’s eye—teams like Tottenham, Chelsea, Fulham, and Aston Villa are also interested.
He mostly plays on the left wing but can play on either side, and his skill would boost many top clubs’ attacks.
For United, they want a player with Premier League experience and who can play across the front line, which Summerville fits perfectly.
What’s more, West Ham might let the buying club pay the £40 million fee in installments instead of one big payment.
TEAMtalk says this release clause has set the price but also gives clubs flexibility in how to make a deal.
It’s hard to imagine West Ham’s No.7 playing in the Championship next season, as the club seems ready to let him go this summer.
