Manchester United are still in talks to sign one of the most exciting young talents in English football, even though a “very big offer” was turned down on deadline day, according to reports. It was a frustrating end to the transfer window for United, as they didn’t add any new players.
But it looks like they’re still working hard to get a deal done. People at Old Trafford are ‘confident’ they can agree a move for Leicester City midfielder Louis Page.
The Manchester Evening News says United’s late attempt to sign Page fell through because the clubs couldn’t agree on the price. Leicester wanted more than £10 million plus £2.5 million in bonuses. Still, United are trying to make it work and believe the transfer can happen.
Louis Page is an 18-year-old left-footed central midfielder who many compare to Jude Bellingham. He has already played 25 senior games and was one of Leicester’s best players in a tough season. He even won the EFL Apprentice of the Year award, something Bellingham also achieved before.
So, what does Page bring to United’s midfield? Like Bellingham, he shows great maturity for his age. He stays calm under pressure, is good at carrying the ball forward, and often makes smart passes in attack.
Recently, Page showed why United want him, setting up a goal in Leicester’s 2-0 win over Plymouth.
After the game, Leicester’s manager Russell Martin talked about United’s interest.
“The owner was here today and we got a very big offer from Manchester United,” he said. “Me, Jon [Rudkin], James [McCarron], and the owner, Khun Top, sat together and said no. Despite everything going on, the owner wanted Louis to stay and be part of the team.
“It would have been easy to sell Louis and take big money, but he didn’t. That’s great for us. Louis shows amazing skill and potential. He’s been great since joining the team. He and Sammy [Braybrooke] have a strong connection, and we want to build the team around these young players. I’m really happy he’s still with us.”
