Man Utd fans are asking INEOS to quickly ‘sell’ the player after a worrying claim, even though they won against Ipswich.
Manchester United had some great moments from Bruno Fernandes as they came from behind to beat Ipswich Town 5-2. But even with the win, fans weren’t happy with one player’s performance.
United faced another newly promoted team after losing 2-0 to Hull City last weekend, and Michael Carrick wanted his players to bounce back. He made four changes to the lineup, including giving Marcus Rashford his first start in 626 days, plus games for Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, and Kobbie Mainoo.
Ipswich surprised everyone by taking the lead through Leif Davis around half an hour in, but United turned things around just before halftime when Bruno Fernandes scored to make it 1-1. Fernandes then went on to score two more goals in the second half, completing his hat-trick. The team also benefited from a Jacob Greaves own goal and a strike from Bryan Mbeumo. Ipswich’s Chuba Akpom scored a late consolation goal in stoppage time.
That strong second half, featuring more brilliance from their captain Fernandes, was exactly the kind of performance Man United needed after their tough start against Hull.
However, not all the feedback was positive. Fans were still unhappy with Luke Shaw, who has had a tough start to the season. Last week, he was blamed for keeping a defender onside that led to a goal for Hull. Against Ipswich, he struggled again, getting beaten for pace by Abdul Fatawu, who then assisted the first goal.
One fan wrote, “Not signing a left-back will ruin our season. Luke Shaw isn’t the same player, and his fitness can’t be trusted.” Others were even harsher, calling for the club to sell Shaw and bring in new defenders.
With the transfer window closing on September 1, time is running out for United to sign a left-back. This is their most urgent need, but so far, the club has had trouble finding the right player.
Newcastle’s Lewis Hall was their top target, but Newcastle made it clear he isn’t for sale after losing key players this summer. They also tried to sign Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, but he wants to stay at the Nou Camp. Racing Santander’s young full-back Jorge Salinas has been linked with a move, but at 19, he’s likely a long-term option.
For now, Shaw remains Carrick’s only natural senior choice at left-back, and that could cause problems as the season goes on.
