Man Utd get big update on Aurelien Tchouameni transfer as they look for a third midfielder
Manchester United have some big news about their ongoing interest in Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
Michael Carrick’s team has been after the French midfielder all summer. Back in July, The Sun reported that a move might happen if Real Madrid signed Rodri from Manchester City first. But last week, Barcelona jumped in and are now leading the race to sign Rodri.
According to Spanish news outlet SPORT, Real Madrid’s manager, Jose Mourinho, was told the club won’t be going after another defensive midfielder. Instead, he has to work with the players already in the squad.
Earlier this transfer window, it was said that Tchouameni agreed to a new five-year deal with Real Madrid, but neither the club nor the player officially confirmed it. This led to some doubts, but football reporter Fabrizio Romano put those rumors to rest. He confirmed that Tchouameni has indeed signed a new contract and will stay at Real Madrid.
This means Manchester United will need to find someone else for their third midfield signing this window. They’ve already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Romano shared on his YouTube channel, “Around April or May, United tried for Aurelien Tchouameni because he was seen as the perfect midfield signing. He’s an elite player with international experience and used to playing at the top level. They wanted him as a replacement for Casemiro. But, he signed a new contract with Real Madrid. It’s done. So Tchouameni will be a key part of Mourinho’s team. He believes in the project and expects to stay at Real Madrid.”
After Real Madrid won 2-1 against Ferencvaros in a pre-season friendly in Budapest, Mourinho spoke about Bernardo Silva joining from Manchester City on a free transfer. The Portuguese coach said Silva might take the role Rodri was supposed to fill, as he can play in several different midfield positions.
“Bernardo is a fantastic player who helps build play well, whether he’s deeper or central in midfield,” Mourinho said. “During the match, I noticed he needs to build more physical strength, so I moved him to the number 10 position, where he’s also comfortable. He can play in three or four spots, which is great for any coach, especially since we’re aiming for a small squad of about 20 players, with some injured players like Rodrygo, Militao, and Ferland Mendy out for the next few weeks.”
