With the transfer window closing soon, Manchester United are stepping up their hunt for a new left-back. For months, they have been watching Newcastle’s Lewis Hall closely. Reports say the 21-year-old was one of their main targets for the 2026-27 season. Hall was also said to be interested in moving to Old Trafford. But after Newcastle lost key players Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, the club has decided to keep Hall and won’t let him go.
Because of this, Manchester United are now looking at other options. One name is teenage left-back Jorge Salinas from Racing Santander. Another is West Ham’s El Hadji Malick Diouf, who caught many eyes at the World Cup playing for Senegal.
What is clear is that United want a left-back to challenge and share playing time with Luke Shaw as they get ready for the Champions League. So, what about Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde? Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says United have reached out to Balde’s team to see if a move is possible.
On social media, Romano wrote, “Manchester United keep looking for a new left-back after the Baleba deal. They have been in contact with Alejandro Balde’s camp recently to check if he could leave and under what conditions.”
On his YouTube channel, Romano shared more details about Balde’s situation at Barcelona. He said, “Manchester United called Jorge Mendes, Alejandro Balde’s agent, to find out what’s going on with Balde at Barcelona. Mendes just arrived in Barcelona to talk about player exits, not only for Balde but also for others like Marc Casado.”
Romano added, “Barcelona and Balde have a great relationship. Balde is a Barcelona boy and doesn’t want to leave unless the club tells him it’s okay to go. If a big offer comes in, we don’t know what will happen. But there are definitely talks between Manchester United and Jorge Mendes to understand the situation.”
