Man Utd legend calls on club to swoop in and snap up Arsenal’s £75m star, known as the ‘world’s best’
Patrice Evra is really clear that Manchester United should step in and steal Arsenal’s rumored move for one of the world’s best forwards this summer.
The 2026/27 Premier League season kicks off in just one week, with Arsenal, the reigning champions, hosting newly-promoted Coventry City at the Emirates.
Arsenal have been busy in the transfer window, signing Piero Hincapie permanently after a strong loan, plus Ilan Meslier, Christos Tzolis, and Bruno Guimaraes for a total of £109 million.
Still, many fans want Arsenal to add more attackers before the window closes. Recently, it was reported that Arsenal talked with Turkish club Galatasaray about signing striker Victor Osimhen.
Nigeria’s head coach Eric Chelle called Osimhen the “best striker in the world.” If Arsenal got him, it would be a huge deal and possibly the best signing of the summer.
That’s why Manchester United legend Evra thinks his old club should swoop in and sign Osimhen if Michael Carrick really believes United can fight for the title with some smart signings.
In an exclusive chat with SPORTbible via Stake, Evra said, “To win the title? No, we need more than that. I don’t get why we didn’t sign a striker like Osimhen. He’s amazing, and I don’t want him going to Madrid or Arsenal or somewhere else. We need a top striker.”
If Arsenal pursue Osimhen, they might offer players like Gabriel Martinelli or Ethan Nwaneri as part of the deal, which would lower the cost.
But United would probably have to pay cash to sign the 27-year-old, who’s valued at about €75 million (£64 million).
If Carrick makes the move and buys Osimhen, United’s summer spending would reach £157 million, after signing Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Tynan Thompson, and Karl Darlow.

Evra doesn’t think United should stop there. He says they still need to strengthen at least one other position before the transfer window closes.
“We still need a left-back because Luke Shaw gets injured a lot,” Evra told SPORTbible. “We need someone to back him up. Even though Dorgu can play left-back, he’s better as a winger.”
Although Shaw played every Premier League game for United last season, many fans feel they need another left-back for depth and injury cover.
United were linked to Newcastle’s Lewis Hall as a possible signing, but that deal looks unlikely since Newcastle are not willing to sell the 21-year-old.
