Manchester United have told four players they can leave the club this summer as Michael Carrick starts to shape his team.
So far, United have signed five new players this summer. The most exciting are midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. They’ve also brought in goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer and 20-year-old keeper Kit Margetson, who joined after leaving Swansea. Plus, 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson came from Spurs for about £4 million.
Some players are expected to move on, too. A recent report from the Daily Mail shares which players could be leaving. According to Chris Wheeler, United are ready to let Radek Vitek, Harry Amass, Dan Gore, and Toby Collyer go, even though they all played in the 5-0 friendly win against Rosenborg.
All four have been told they probably won’t play even once for the first team this season and are available for permanent transfers. Goalkeeper Vitek spent last season on loan at Bristol City and has caught the eye of Championship clubs like Middlesbrough. The 22-year-old has yet to play for United’s first team and said he’s ready to leave to find regular games.
Left-back Amass scored in the win over Rosenborg, and Championship teams are interested in him as well. The 19-year-old has played seven times for United and impressed on loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season. He had another loan at Norwich, but that ended early because of an injury. According to The Athletic, United value him at around £6 million and would prefer to sell him permanently.
The Daily Mail says that United are willing to sell Vitek and Amass or loan them out with an option to buy.
As for Gore and Collyer, their chances of playing for the first team look slim after signing Tielemans and Santos. They’ve been told their best chance to play regularly would be with the Under-21s, which would be a step back after getting plenty of minutes in the Football League.
Collyer, who got game time under Ruben Amorim, spent last season on loan in the Championship with West Brom and Hull City, helping Hull earn promotion to the Premier League. Hull are keen to bring him back for another season in the top flight. Former Burnley midfielder Gore is also available to move on.
Looking ahead, young players like Shea Lacey, Jack and Tyler Fletcher, and JJ Gabriel are the top hopefuls to join the first-team squad. Jaydan Kamason, Jim Thwaites, and Jacob Devaney are also close to getting their chance.
United’s pre-season heats up with upcoming games against Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds, and AC Milan, before starting the new Premier League season against Hull.
