Man Utd player agrees to leave the club as Michael Carrick’s summer changes keep going
Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee is set to join a new club this summer as new head coach Michael Carrick continues to reshape the team quickly.
So far, United has focused on strengthening their midfield, bringing in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa for over £70 million combined. They’re also interested in Real Madrid’s midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. According to The Sun, Real Madrid might let Tchouameni go if they sign Manchester City’s Rodri this summer.
Fabrizio Romano reports that United are now keen on Newcastle’s 21-year-old left-back Lewis Hall, who is expected to compete with Luke Shaw as the club prepares for the busy Champions League schedule.
On the outgoing side, United have already let five players leave. Big earners Casemiro and Jadon Sancho left as free agents. Tyrell Malacia was also released, while Rasmus Hojlund moved permanently to Napoli after a successful loan last season. Andre Onana is spending another season on loan at Turkish club Trabzonspor.
Rasmus Hojlund might be joined by another former Serie A rival. Gazzetta dello Sport says Juventus have gotten a positive response from Zirkzee’s representatives about a summer move. Juventus are finalizing the signing of Randal Kolo Muani from PSG but want one more striker, as they look to move Canada’s World Cup star Jonathan David.
Zirkzee has many clubs interested in him across Europe, but a move to Juventus is said to be one of the most exciting options. He enjoyed his time in Italy playing for Bologna and would be happy to return if he leaves Manchester.
Before Zirkzee can join Juve, Jonathan David needs to leave, probably on a loan deal. Juventus are following a strict ‘one in, one out’ rule because of UEFA regulations.
Zirkzee scored just five goals during his two Premier League seasons at United after joining from Bologna in 2024. He played under Erik ten Hag, who signed him, as well as Ruben Amorim and now Michael Carrick. But after Carrick took over as interim coach in January, Zirkzee barely got any game time.
He started only one Premier League match—a 0-0 draw against Sunderland in April—and made nine short appearances as a substitute after Carrick arrived.
Zirkzee did take part in United’s European pre-season training and even scored in their 5-0 win over Rosenborg in Norway on July 24.
