Man Utd star shares his hope for Marcus Rashford’s transfer, breaking the silence in the locker room
Harry Maguire is hoping Marcus Rashford will stay at Manchester United during the last few weeks of the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old has returned to his boyhood club after Barcelona decided not to make his loan move permanent at the end of last season. United originally expected to sell Rashford this summer, but there hasn’t been much strong interest. This is partly because of his high wage demands and the club wanting to get a transfer fee for him.
Rashford was left out of the team by former head coach Ruben Amorim after saying he wanted a “new challenge” in his career. His last game for Barcelona was in December 2024, before he went on loan to Aston Villa for the rest of the season.
Last season at Barcelona, Rashford scored 14 goals and made 14 assists, helping them win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.
Rashford came back to training with United earlier this month and has been given a chance to rejoin the first team under Michael Carrick, who played alongside him before. Rashford even came off the bench in a recent game against AC Milan, which they lost 4-2. Interestingly, AC Milan is now managed by Amorim.
After the friendly game, Maguire said he really wants Rashford to stay and help the team as they compete for the Premier League title. “The transfer window is still open,” he told reporters. “As players, we hope he stays because he’s a big asset. He can make us better for sure. You saw when he came on, he caused a lot of problems for their defense and nearly scored. I’ve played with Marcus for years and I know how good he is.”
After a 1-1 draw with Leeds United last week, Carrick also said Rashford has “come back great” from his break and could be important to the team this season. “He’s our player and he’s been in good spirits since returning,” Carrick told ITV Sport. “He’s trained for a few days now and things are looking good. We’re excited for the season to start.”
Rashford is said to be the highest-paid player at United, earning about £325,000 a week after the club made it into the Champions League, so the usual 25% wage cut no longer applies.
