Man Utd’s transfer hopes hit hard after big Premier League club announcement
Manchester United have hit a big setback in their plans to sign one of their top targets, as the player has agreed to a new contract.
United finished the transfer window with four new signings: Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba, and Karl Darlow. But they struggled to strengthen other areas of Michael Carrick’s squad, especially finding a new left-back.
Carrick wanted a left-sided defender to compete with Luke Shaw, whose contract runs until 2027. Their main target was Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall.
Man United tried several times this summer to sign Hall, but Newcastle made it clear he was not for sale, having already sold important players. On deadline day, they said it would take more than £75 million to even think about selling him, and United weren’t ready to spend that much.
Hall was still seen as the top target for the January 2027 transfer window, but Newcastle planned to offer him a new contract and have since convinced him to stay, impressed by their new manager, Matthias Jaissle.
According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Hall is set to sign a new deal at St James’ Park after being impressed by Jaissle, who has started his role well with unbeaten Premier League results, including wins and draws against top teams.
This good start, combined with Hall’s strong performances, makes the new contract feel well deserved.
Although Hall’s new deal doesn’t completely end United’s hopes of signing him in the future, it definitely makes the chase tougher. Newcastle’s current contract with Hall lasts until 2029, but the extension means they can ask for even more than the £75 million they mentioned before.
Since Newcastle recently sold Sandro Tonali for nearly £100 million, it wouldn’t be surprising if they value Hall at a similar price given his age and potential.
Because of this, United might have to look for other options to find a new left-back, as Hall’s new contract likely puts him out of their financial reach for now.
