Marc Cucurella’s agent shares update on his Chelsea departure and reveals the real reason behind his move to Real Madrid

After Marc Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid was confirmed, more details about his goodbye to Chelsea have come to light—his partner shared a heartfelt farewell on social media.

Real Madrid is busy rebuilding their defense under new coach Jose Mourinho, and Chelsea’s left-back Cucurella officially joined them earlier today. He follows Ibrahim Konate and Denzel Dumfries as new arrivals at the Bernabeu, all set to join up after their World Cup matches.

Cucurella’s transfer surprised many, especially since his request to leave came out of the blue. It might even start a bigger wave of players leaving Chelsea, as another star player recently showed support for the move.

Now, we’ve learned more about his departure thanks to his partner, Claudia Rodríguez, who said goodbye to London with a touching message. Having come to Chelsea from Brighton, Cucurella spent five years playing in the Premier League after coming through Barcelona’s academy and playing for Getafe before that.

Those years seemed to be tough on the Spanish player, even though they were marked by happy moments like the birth of their daughter in England. After the move was confirmed, Claudia took to Instagram to share just how much Chelsea and London meant to them:

“I don’t know how to say goodbye to my home,” she wrote.
“Thank you to everyone who was part of this journey; I feel so lucky for everything we’ve shared these past years.
I arrived with two little kids and I’m leaving with two boys and a British girl, and I don’t know how to explain to them that Chelsea is no longer part of our lives.
We’ve learned so much and enjoyed every moment along the way.
Thanks to everyone who shared this chapter with us, to my girls who I’ll miss so much, and to every Blue I met. Wishing you all the best—London will always be Blue.”

While Claudia’s message shows they’ll miss Chelsea, reports say that Cucurella left for personal reasons. Journalist Ben Jacobs shared that Cucurella wanted to return to Spain for family and personal reasons. Chelsea wanted to keep him but felt the £50 million offer was fair, especially since Jorrel Hato has been impressive in the same position.

The exact personal reasons haven’t been shared, but it’s clear Cucurella loves being close to home. He’s shown his passion for Spain before—at the Euros, he celebrated with a shout-out to paella and his favorite Spanish beer, Estrella, while taking a playful dig at Erling Haaland.

Even having fellow Spaniard Xabi Alonso at Chelsea wasn’t enough to keep him from moving back. Now, Alonso is focused on strengthening the squad with new midfield and attack players, apparently happy with Hato stepping up at left-back to replace Cucurella.
