Marcus Rashford replies to Jamie Carragher’s strong words with a surprising social media post
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford surprised many by replying to a clip of Jamie Carragher talking about him on a preview show for the new season of Stick to Football.
The first episode of season four of Stick to Football will be released on Thursday, August 20. As usual, Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Jill Scott, and Carragher will chat about all things Premier League.
Since some of the guests support Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal, those teams and their star players, like Rashford, will likely get a lot of attention. Rashford seems set to stay with his boyhood club despite recent loans to Aston Villa and Barcelona.
Rashford made his first appearance for United in 20 months during last weekend’s 4-2 pre-season loss to AC Milan, coming on as a second-half substitute. Unless anything major changes by the September 1 transfer deadline, he’s expected to be an important part of Michael Carrick’s plans for the season as United returns to the Champions League.
Before the Premier League even begins, Rashford is already in the spotlight because of his recent activity on social media. The clip from Stick to Football started with Neville asking, “Marcus Rashford, what do we think?” Carragher replied with an expletive before saying, “Can we do a podcast without mentioning Marcus Rashford… stop it. It’s like Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Rashford are almost a part of the podcast. The Trent part or the Rashford part. Oh my god!”
Neville tried to keep the conversation going by saying, “No, but he’s come back to United…” but Carragher cut in with, “So what? He’s just a good player for Man Utd.”
While fans are excited to hear the full episode, no one expected Rashford himself to respond. He quote-tweeted the clip and said, “Thanks, Jamie. It would be great to be able to get my head down and play football without my name being mentioned every day.”
Fans quickly shared their thoughts. One agreed with Rashford, saying, “Couldn’t agree more with Marcus Rashford here. The media really hasn’t stopped talking about him since he’s come back to United. Can’t wait for him to prove a lot of people wrong.”
Another fan understood Rashford’s wish to focus quietly but added, “This makes it sound like the noise around your name just happens. But your performances, choices, and all the talk about you play a big part too. No one wants to see you in the headlines for the wrong reasons. The best way to stop the noise is by playing well, staying fit, and working hard.”
A third fan joked, “This is why Rashford wanted to leave England—because they mention his name every single time. He definitely has a strong media presence.”
Manchester United start their Premier League season away at Hull City on August 22, with Rashford expected to play.
