Marcus Rashford has only gotten the right coaching from two managers in his career.
Marcus Rashford has played for some of the biggest football clubs in the world, like Manchester United, Barcelona, and Aston Villa. Between these teams, they’ve won nine Champions League titles.
As an England international, Rashford has worked with some top managers such as Jose Mourinho, Thomas Tuchel, and Louis van Gaal.
When Rashford first came onto the scene, fans had big hopes for him. But some feel he hasn’t quite lived up to those expectations. Nowadays, he’s often seen as a squad player at Manchester United. Still, some say he might not have had the right coaching along the way.
Rashford showed promise after his first season in senior football. While he’s had a solid career at both club and country, it’s fair to say he hasn’t quite reached the huge heights that many expected early on.
In his debut season, the 28-year-old scored eight goals in 18 appearances. Louis van Gaal gave him his first chance against Midtjylland in the Europa League. It was a strong start, but van Gaal was replaced by Mourinho the next summer, in 2016.
Rashford has had some great seasons at United, Villa, and Barcelona, but there were also times when he struggled to find the net.
A report in The Telegraph suggests Rashford really only got the coaching he needed from two managers during his career: first van Gaal, who was known for his detailed tactical approach, and later Hansi Flick at Barcelona. This hints that for many years, his potential might not have been fully nurtured.
Of course, Rashford’s own effort is key to his growth, but like many players, the right coaching can make a big difference in reaching full potential.
Throughout his career, Rashford has been coached by some big names. At United, he played under permanent managers like Ole Gunnar Solskjær, van Gaal, Mourinho, Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim, and now Michael Carrick. He’s also had interim coaches such as Ralf Rangnick and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Under Solskjær and Ten Hag, Rashford had impressive goal records, scoring 73 goals in 157 games and helping United win the EFL Cup. His time at Villa with Unai Emery also seemed to bring new life to his career, with several strong performances.
So, while there have been times when the coaching might not have been perfect, Rashford has also had solid spells under five different managers where he performed consistently well.
