Max Verstappen tells England fans, “It’s not coming home,” in a confident World Cup winner prediction.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen recently told SPORTbible who he thinks will win the World Cup, saying one team at the tournament is just “too good.”
The World Cup quarter-finals started on Thursday, with favorites France keeping up their strong form by beating Morocco 2-0.
France now looks set to face either Spain or Belgium in a very exciting semi-final, as those two teams play on Friday. England will face Norway in their quarter-final on Saturday.
England’s team, led by Thomas Tuchel, are feeling confident after a close 3-2 win over Mexico at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium. They showed serious grit, even after Jarell Quansah was sent off late in the game.
This big win has fans dreaming of football finally “coming home,” as England aims to end a 60-year wait for a World Cup win.
While some people are hopeful, others don’t think England will take the trophy. Max Verstappen is one of those who doubts it.
During SPORTbible’s Hot Lap at Silverstone, the Dutch F1 star was asked if England could win, and he quickly said no, pointing to France as the team to beat.
“No, I don’t think it will [come home],” Verstappen said. “I think France is too good.”
France’s team, led by Didier Deschamps, has won all six of their World Cup matches so far. Kylian Mbappe, who leads the tournament with eight goals, has helped them reach their third straight semi-final.
After picking France to win, Verstappen was asked other fun questions, like who he prefers between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Instead of picking one, Verstappen said you can’t really compare them because they are so different.
“You can’t compare them because it’s just different,” he explained. “The way they achieved greatness, that’s what I always find.”

– Wet race or dry race? “Normally dry. I like driving in the wet, but for fans it’s better dry.”
Many agree with Verstappen’s view of France as strong favorites to win their third World Cup. Argentina and Spain are next in line, with England a bit lower in the rankings.
Norway, hoping to pull off a big surprise against England on Saturday, are seen as outsiders, along with Switzerland and Belgium.
