NBA expert says LeBron James is “really thinking” about making a big move after leaving the LA Lakers.
LeBron James surprised the basketball world last month when he decided to leave the LA Lakers after eight years. Now, he’s free to join a new team.
LeBron is known as one of the greatest basketball players ever. He’s the NBA’s all-time top scorer and holds many amazing records. At 41 years old, he has played the most minutes and made the most All-Star appearances in NBA history. Throughout his career, he’s averaged an impressive 26.8 points per game.
He’s also won four NBA MVP awards, a feat only matched by legends like Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
The Lakers took a big hit when LeBron announced he was leaving. His agent shared that the main reason LeBron is moving on is to try and win another NBA championship before he retires.
“LeBron knows the Lakers are focused on building for the future, but he still wants to compete for titles,” said his agent, Rich Paul, in early July. “We want to make sure what’s best for LeBron at this point in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count.”
As one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason, LeBron has been linked to several teams. The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers were first in line, but the Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and Miami Heat have also shown interest.
Recently, even more teams have joined the race, with as many as eight going after LeBron. The Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Denver Nuggets are among the top contenders.
ESPN’s Shams Charania shared that LeBron is seriously thinking about joining the 76ers. “When the Sixers got Jaylen Brown, I did some research, and LeBron is taking their pitch very seriously,” Charania said on the Straight Shooter podcast. He also ranked the teams in order of LeBron’s interest: Cleveland, Miami, Philadelphia, and then some others.
Jaylen Brown’s recent big-money move to the 76ers has changed their outlook. Adding Brown gives Philly another top player who can both score and defend. This helps the team become a real championship contender.
It’s been 43 years since the 76ers last won the NBA title, but with stars like Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and V.J. Edgecombe, things look hopeful for the 2026/27 season.
If LeBron joins them, their chances of winning will get even better as he decides where to go next.
