Newcastle is looking to make a £100 million move for Matthias Jaissle’s first signing, with exciting new details coming out.
Newcastle United are back in the hunt for one of their main targets, thanks to a big boost in their efforts. This summer has been tough for the Magpies. They sold key players like Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes, and their manager Eddie Howe left after five years in charge.
So far, Newcastle have signed five first-team players, with the most exciting being Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim for £43 million. But with new manager Matthias Jaissle now in charge, the club is pushing hard to bring in even more new faces. They’ve shown fresh interest in a player they looked at before.
According to TEAMTalk, Newcastle were keen on Borussia Dortmund and Germany’s Felix Nmecha when Howe was manager but backed off because of the high price. Plus, Nmecha wasn’t that interested in moving at the time. Now, talks with Nmecha and his team have picked up again. They’ve been impressed by Jaissle’s long-term plans, making Nmecha more open to joining.
With two key midfield players having left, Nmecha could play a big role for Newcastle. He used to play for Manchester City and has a £75 million release clause in his Dortmund contract, but that only starts in 2027. Dortmund want £100 million now, especially after selling young English stars for even more.
Newcastle’s sporting director, Nils-Ole Book, recently said it seemed unlikely Nmecha would leave, but things are changing fast. The club is more hopeful they can make a deal, and Nmecha seems interested in playing in the Premier League alongside his older brother Lukas.
No official offer has been made yet. Nmecha impressed at his first World Cup with Germany and has caught the attention of Manchester United as well.
Eddie Howe’s departure shook things up, but early signs with Jaissle as the new boss are looking good. Performance director James Bunce is excited about the changes ahead.
“The players were already in a good place, but Matthias is bringing in new ideas that will help us improve,” Bunce told the Gazette. “We’re already seeing that in training, and it will continue throughout the season. Over the next three years, we expect the team to grow both technically and tactically under Matthias.”
Newcastle will play a friendly against Valencia this Saturday, followed by matches against Everton, Bayer Leverkusen, and Strasbourg. Their Premier League season kicks off at home against Liverpool on August 23.
