Paul Scholes couldn’t help but joke about Steven Gerrard when Luke Littler asked him to choose Liverpool players for Man Utd.
Paul Scholes nodded in agreement when Luke Littler picked a Liverpool legend he’d like to see playing for Manchester United. Littler, a big United fan who often goes to games at Old Trafford and away, joined Scholes on a special episode of ‘The Good, The Bad and The Football’ podcast to chat about darts and football.
After surprising Scholes by sharing what he spent some of his World Darts Championship winnings on, they found some common ground when talking about Liverpool and United.
During a fun ‘Cards on the Table’ segment, Littler asked, “Which Liverpool players, past or present, would you want at United?” Littler laughed and said he wouldn’t pick any, but Scholes quickly named Virgil van Dijk.
“I guess people would say Gerrard, right?” Scholes joked. “He’d have been a good sub for us! Just kidding, Steven.”
“If we needed a player now, it’d be Van Dijk. Or maybe the keeper, Alisson, I like him too. But aside from that, no one else,” Scholes added.
Littler then changed his mind and said, “I think I’ll go with Salah. We haven’t really had great right wingers, have we?”
“Yeah, I forgot about him. He’s not bad at all,” Scholes agreed. “Alright, two then – Salah and Van Dijk.”
Of course, Salah has since left Liverpool and joined Trabzonspor in Turkey.
Later, Littler surprised Scholes by saying he’d rather see United win another treble than Scholes winning a third straight World Darts Championship.
Honestly, Scholes said, “I wouldn’t.”
Littler explained, “My dad saw the treble, but I didn’t.” Being born in 2007, he was too young to remember United’s famous treble in 1999.
Scholes chuckled, “You’ll win the championship every other year anyway, so it’s fine.”
“Just take a year off!” Littler joked.
At 19, Littler is a favorite to win this year’s World Championship at Alexandra Palace after an almost perfect season. He was close to winning all the big PDC tournaments in 2026 before losing in recent events.
He also just lost 6-5 in the semi-finals of the World Youth Championship, but now he’s getting ready to go after the European Championship – the only major PDC title he hasn’t won yet.
It’s been an exciting journey for Littler, and fans can’t wait to see what he does next!
