Piero Hincapie seemed to take a playful jab at Virgil van Dijk by sharing a close-up picture of the Premier League badge right after Sunday’s Liverpool vs. Arsenal match. Arsenal moved three points ahead at the top of the league after Kai Havertz scored in the first half, giving Mikel Arteta’s team their first win at Anfield since 2014.

It was a frustrating day for Liverpool. They were upset when referee Andy Madley and VAR turned down two penalty appeals, the most talked-about being Jurrien Timber grabbing Alexander Isak’s shirt.

Liverpool captain Van Dijk shared his disappointment after the game. When asked about the shirt pull, he said, “I think it was a clear penalty. I’ve seen it again.” He added, “There are 50 cameras or even more. So why complain? In the end, the penalty wasn’t given, and we lost. Well done to Arsenal.”

After the match ended, Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie, who came on late in the game, posted several images on Instagram with the caption “I don’t forget.” One photo stood out—a close-up of the golden Premier League badge on the champions’ sleeves. Interestingly, Van Dijk had shared a similar image after Liverpool’s 0-0 draw at the Emirates back in January.

Liverpool’s coach, Andoni Iraola, also shared his thoughts at the press conference. “There was a clear shirt grab,” he said. “Alex [Isak] was right in front of goal, about to head the ball, but the shirt hold stopped him. I don’t get why it wasn’t called, maybe because he didn’t fall down.”

He continued, “I don’t think Gakpo’s was a penalty, but Alex’s definitely was. You have to dive to win a penalty these days. Since he didn’t fall, it wasn’t given. That’s the problem—if he had gone down, the penalty would have been called without a doubt.”
