Raheem Sterling could go to prison for two years after the former England star was charged with three offences.
Raheem Sterling might face up to two years in prison after being charged in connection with a car crash that happened in May.
Sterling, who is currently without a club, was stopped by Hampshire Police after his Lamborghini hit the barriers on the M3 near the Minley Interchange. Thankfully, no other cars were involved and nobody was hurt.
After the crash, which took place at 9 a.m., Sterling was taken into custody but later released on bail. At first, reports said he was arrested for possession of a Class C drug, but now The Sun reports he’s been charged with dangerous driving, having nitrous oxide, and refusing to provide a specimen.
Sterling is set to appear in court on September 15 to face these charges. If found guilty of dangerous driving, he could be sent to prison for two years.
A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary told The Sun: “Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen following a single-car crash on the M3 southbound near Minley Interchange on May 28, 2026. No one else was involved, and there were no injuries. He will appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on September 15.”

Sterling’s last team was Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where he played eight matches during a short stay. The 31-year-old started his career at Liverpool before moving to Manchester City in 2015 for £49 million, where he won four Premier League titles.
In 2022, he moved back to London with Chelsea, but things didn’t go smoothly. He spent part of the 2024/25 season on loan at Arsenal and was eventually cut off from Chelsea’s facilities. His contract was ended by mutual agreement in January this year.
After talking with several clubs, he chose to join Feyenoord on a short contract. However, after playing only 421 minutes, his time there wasn’t extended when the 2025/26 season finished.
Sterling has played for England 82 times, scoring 20 goals and appearing in several World Cups. His last game for England was in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final against France, and it seems unlikely he will play for the national team again.
With 123 Premier League goals to his name, Sterling ranks 20th on the all-time scoring list.
