Raheem Sterling was turned down by a struggling club, marking a tough moment in his career just days after he admitted to dangerous driving.
Former England winger Raheem Sterling has recently faced some setbacks, including being turned down by a struggling European club just days after admitting to dangerous driving.
At 31, Sterling has been without a team since leaving Dutch club Feyenoord earlier this year. The Liverpool academy product, who has also played for big clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea, was recently offered to three French teams, according to Foot Mercato.
Sterling is hoping for a fresh start and is open to moving to France. One Ligue 1 club, Le Havre, was approached but decided not to sign him. Two other unnamed French teams also passed on the chance, even though Sterling was willing to take a pay cut.
Foot Mercato shared: “Sadly, Le Havre felt they already had enough options in his position and turned him down despite his impressive track record. Another French first-division club also declined. Sterling has some other, more unusual offers on the table now. It’s up to him to decide the next step in his career.”
During the second half of the 2025/26 season, Sterling only made eight appearances for Feyenoord without scoring or assisting. He hasn’t played for England since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
This news came shortly after Sterling admitted to dangerous driving and crashing his Lamborghini on a motorway back in May. He also confessed to having nitrous oxide for illegal inhalation and failing to give a specimen for testing.
Sterling was arrested after the crash near the M3 and appeared in Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on May 28. The crash badly damaged his car, especially all four wheels, so he couldn’t continue driving. Police found six canisters of nitrous oxide, which is classified as a Class C drug.
Sterling is banned from driving for now and is set to appear in court again on November 25.
