Rangers set a record price for Youssef Chermiti after turning down a big offer from Galatasaray.
Rangers are reportedly asking for a huge amount of money from Galatasaray to sell their star player Youssef Chermiti — a fee that would break the Scottish transfer record.
This summer’s transfer window in the Süper Lig has been full of exciting signings. The biggest news is Premier League legend Mohamed Salah joining Trabzonspor. Salah, 34, was close to moving to Beşiktaş to join Leandro Trossard, but Trabzonspor offered him a great contract that will likely make him the highest-paid player in Europe after tax.
Because of these big signings, the Süper Lig is expected to gain more fans worldwide in the 2026-27 season. Now, Galatasaray is trying to make a big move by targeting Chermiti, one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership. Last season, Chermiti scored 15 goals and made five assists in 30 league games.
Other teams are also spending big this summer to try and stop Galatasaray from winning a fifth straight Süper Lig title, but the champions are not giving up easily. Chermiti joined Rangers in September 2025 for £7.5 million from Everton, and he quickly impressed with 20 goal contributions in 20 league starts.
Turkish transfer expert Yağiz Sabuncuoğlu says Galatasaray offered €25 million for Chermiti, but Rangers turned it down. Instead, Rangers want €40 million — a record fee for Scotland. Rangers’ manager Derek McInnes confirmed this to BBC Scotland.
Chermiti was injured in a recent 2-1 loss to Hibernian and was taken off on a stretcher with his knee in a brace. He’ll have a scan soon to check the injury. McInnes praised Chermiti’s clever runs and energy and hopes for good news from the scan.
“The club hasn’t received the price they want,” McInnes said. If Galatasaray pays €40 million, it would break the current Scottish record, set by Matt O’Riley’s move from Celtic to Brighton for €29.5 million in 2024-25.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray’s rivals Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor are working on deals to sign Romelu Lukaku and Darwin Núñez. Núñez would reunite with former Liverpool teammate Salah at Trabzonspor. Other ex-Premier League players who joined the Süper Lig this summer include Nathan Ake, Mason Greenwood, and Leandro Trossard.
Greenwood’s move to Fenerbahçe, alongside Ake, cost around €40 million.
