Real Madrid to make Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool debut tough by going after another player
Liverpool’s new boss, Andoni Iraola, might face another big transfer setback thanks to Real Madrid, who have set their sights on another Liverpool player. Last summer, Real brought in Trent Alexander-Arnold for around £8 million just so he could play in the Club World Cup. Now, a year later, they’ve also signed centre-back Ibrahima Konate, who agreed to a four-year deal after not reaching a new contract with Liverpool. Konate’s last game for Liverpool was on May 24 against Brentford.
That same day marked the end for Liverpool’s previous manager, Arne Slot, who has since been replaced by Iraola on a two-year contract—official news is coming soon. Even though Iraola got an unusual request approved during his contract talks, he might still lose another important player to Real Madrid. Reports say Alexis Mac Allister is Real’s top midfield target. If Florentino Perez wins the club’s presidential election on Sunday, he’ll push hard to sign Mac Allister.
Perez faces a challenger, Enrique Riquelme, who promises big signings if he wins. Perez might even bring back Jose Mourinho as manager for the second time. Mac Allister, who joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 and has two years left on his contract, is high on Real’s list before the transfer window opens on July 1.
After a season without trophies, Real is acting fast to improve their team. Mourinho wants several new players, especially a right-back, since club legend Dani Carvajal left after 23 years. One of their main targets is Dutch player Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed the deal is nearly done. Real will get Dumfries for around €20 million, activating his release clause, before he even plays for the Netherlands at the World Cup.
