Florentino Perez has been re-elected as Real Madrid president after the club’s first competitive election in 20 years. He won against Enrique Riquelme, a 37-year-old businessman who wanted to bring in Jurgen Klopp as coach and sign stars like Erling Haaland and Rodri following a tough season without trophies.

Perez, who has led the club since 2009 and before that from 2000 to 2006, got 21,741 votes compared to Riquelme’s 11,814. After winning, Perez said, “We’ve got the second-best result in Real Madrid’s election history. It’s amazing… Today, Real Madrid is the real winner. We’ve shown the world how democracy works. We’ll keep working hard to win more trophies. Thank you to everyone who took part. Together, we have many great moments ahead.”

Jose Mourinho is expected to return as manager, coming back to the club he led between 2010 and 2013. Ibrahima Konate looks set to join Real Madrid after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer, and Denzel Dumfries is also likely to arrive from Inter Milan.

With Konate leaving, Liverpool might lose another key player soon. Ryan Gravenberch is reported to be Real Madrid’s next target. Perez is ready to offer a deal for one of Europe’s best midfielders, according to Fichajes. Gravenberch was a star in Liverpool’s title-winning season but had a tougher time last year under Arne Slot.

New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, known for his high-press style, loves midfielders who can bring the ball forward, making Gravenberch a great fit for his plans. Gravenberch signed a long-term contract with Liverpool in March, and the club doesn’t want to let him go.

Perez also promised before the election to bid €150 million this week for a big new signing. Players like Vitinha, Joao Neves, and Michael Olise are being considered for this huge move. However, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich say their star players won’t be sold this summer, making this all a big surprise for world football fans.
