“Way too embarrassing” – Dana White makes an awkward comment during a strange chat with Nina Drama at the Zuffa Boxing event.
Dana White made a surprising and incorrect comment when he complained about the lack of ring girls at a recent Zuffa Boxing event in Dublin.
Over the weekend, White brought his boxing promotion to Ireland for the first time, with the 3Arena in Dublin hosting Zuffa Boxing 10. The event featured Irish fighter Aaron McKenna defeating Italian Etinosa Oliha to win the vacant IBF middleweight title.
While appearing on Nina Drama’s ringside fight coverage during Zuffa’s debut in Ireland, White said there were no ring girls because of a supposed British rule that required ring boys too. This false claim quickly spread on social media, making many fans react with fake outrage, but anyone who checked the facts could see it wasn’t true.
When Nina Drama asked why there were no ring card girls, White replied, “Don’t even get me started. The UK won’t use ring card girls unless you have ring card boys.” Nina gave a playful facepalm, both dropped their mics, and the clip ended with her joking, “Who would want to see a ring card boy? Sounds weird and perverted.”
What made this even more ironic was that Nina didn’t seem bothered by the “perverted” nature of ring girls, and White’s claims were simply wrong. First, Dublin is in the Republic of Ireland, which isn’t part of the UK. The event was held under the Boxing Union of Ireland, not the British Boxing Board of Control.
Second, ring girls are allowed at UK events. There’s no rule saying you have to have ring boys, and no ban on ring girls. Actually, just a week before, Pierce O’Leary fought at the same 3Arena with ring card girls present at a Frank Warren promoted card.
One social media user pointed out, “Dublin isn’t in the UK… and even if it was, what he said about ring card girls is just a lie.” Another added, “Dana not only doesn’t know much about boxing, he’s now showing he doesn’t know geography either. Pretty embarrassing.” Someone else joked, “He pretends to have Irish roots but thinks Dublin is in the UK.”
