Roy Keane fires back at Rodri’s reply to Man City’s charges, calling it ‘cheating’
Roy Keane has openly disagreed with Rodri after the former Manchester City midfielder said he believes the club is “innocent.”
This week, it was reported that City was found guilty of breaking 114 out of 115 financial rules they were accused of, which could lead to serious consequences for the club. No punishments have been announced yet, and City plans to appeal the decision from the independent commission. Still, the news has sparked a lot of reactions, including from Rodri.
Before Spain’s game against England in the Nations League, Rodri was asked about the charges. He shared the club’s side and his own feelings about what they have achieved over time.
He said, “They always say they didn’t do anything wrong, and we believe them. Until they prove otherwise, we trust the club. They always show us their confidence in their innocence.”
Rodri added, “What we did on the field can’t be taken away. It wasn’t bought with money, but earned through hard work and sticking together every day. I think everything was well deserved, and I’m proud to have been part of one of the best times in English football.”
However, Keane, speaking as a TV pundit on ITV, didn’t agree with Rodri’s view. Talking about the charges, he said, “It’s about time. This has been going on for a while. I think the club chose to cheat. Whatever they’ve won recently, they should be punished. It’s tough to say how things will end, but they broke the rules, got caught, and now they must face the consequences.”
Keane also said, “I was surprised by how many charges they were found guilty of.”
On Friday, Man City released a statement about the situation. It said, “The Premier League process is still ongoing, with important steps remaining, and is under strict confidentiality. Our position stays the same as our statement from February 2023. We have respected the process for eight years, trusting that the Premier League would act fairly and independently, without bias.”
