Ruben Amorim lets three AC Milan stars know they can go in a big £59m clearout as Premier League teams watch closely.
Ruben Amorim has told three AC Milan players they can leave the club this summer, according to reports, as Premier League teams show interest.
After a tough 14 months, Amorim was let go by Manchester United in January, leaving when the team was sixth in the league, tied on points with Chelsea. His win rate at Man United was the lowest ever for a manager in Premier League history (31.9%), and his reputation dropped a lot during that time.
Many thought Amorim might struggle to get another big job, but in June, just five months after leaving Man United, he was hired as AC Milan’s new manager. He signed a three-year deal with the Rossoneri, taking over from Massimiliano Allegri, who was fired after missing out on Champions League qualification.
At 41, Amorim is determined to succeed where his predecessor couldn’t, and a strong transfer window is key. Milan has already signed three players, including the eye-catching £60 million signing of Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain.
But to add more to his crowded squad, it looks like Amorim needs to say goodbye to some first-team players. Reports say Fikayo Tomori, Youssouf Fofana, and Christopher Nkunku are up for transfer as part of his rebuilding plan.
Tomori and Fofana didn’t play in Milan’s 3-0 loss to Chelsea on August 8, hinting at Amorim’s plans for them. Nkunku, who came on at halftime against his former club, is said to have a price tag of £34 million.
The good news for Amorim is that two of these players have already caught the eye of Premier League clubs. Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Coventry City have shown interest in Tomori.
Tomori joined Milan from Chelsea in 2021 for £35 million but doesn’t fit Amorim’s style as he wants defenders who are more comfortable with the ball. Tomori’s contract runs until June 2027, but Milan would rather sell him now for about €15 million (£12.8 million) than lose him for free next summer.
Fofana has also attracted attention from Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, both looking to strengthen their midfield. The aggressive French midfielder, capped 25 times, is available for around €15 million (£13 million), making him a good investment. His contract runs until June 2028, so there’s less rush to sell, but chances to impress may be limited with many players competing for spots.
Amorim has several midfield options including Luka Modric, Adrien Rabiot, Ardon Jashari, Samuele Ricci, and Yunus Musah, all fighting for just two places.
