Tottenham Hotspur are getting ready to pay a huge fee to bring Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United to London, breaking their transfer record for the second day in a row.

Roberto De Zerbi is busy rebuilding the team at White Hart Lane to bring Spurs back to the top of the Premier League after a tough season where they almost got relegated, only surviving on the last day.

The 2025 Europa League champions have already agreed to sign West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, which is believed to have cost Spurs £85 million. This was their biggest transfer at the time, but they’ve already topped that with the new Tonali deal.

According to The Athletic, Spurs will pay an initial £92.5 million for the Italian international, with an extra £7.5 million depending on how many times they qualify for the Champions League.

Besides boosting their midfield, Spurs have also been busy strengthening their defense. They signed Scotland’s Andy Robertson on a free transfer, brought in Marco Senesi after his Bournemouth contract ended, and spent £52 million to sign Dutch centre back Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton.

Tonali had been an important player for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle since joining from AC Milan in July 2023, although he did face a 10-month ban starting in October 2023 for breaking gambling rules. Since returning, he’s played 110 games for Newcastle, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists. He built a strong midfield partnership with Bruno Guimaraes, who is rumored to be joining Spurs’ London rivals, Arsenal.
