Spurs star agrees to leave the club this summer, setting off a Premier League domino effect
Tottenham captain Cristian Romero is reportedly ready to leave the club this summer, but the deal might still fall through.
So far, Roberto De Zerbi’s team has had a great transfer window, adding a good mix of Premier League experience and young talent.
They spent £100 million to break their club record by signing midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle and also agreed on an £85 million fee with relegated West Ham to bring in Mateus Fernandes.
Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson joined on free transfers after leaving Bournemouth and Liverpool.
Now, Spurs are focusing on strengthening their attack, with De Zerbi promising a “bomba” – a big signing – coming soon.
They’ve been linked with Manchester City players Omar Marmoush and Savinho, and reports from Portugal say they’ve made a bid for Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup.
Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo is also on their radar.
But some players will need to leave, and Romero might be the first big name to move under De Zerbi.
According to Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport, Inter Milan have agreed on a €40 million deal to sign the Argentine captain.
Romero has reportedly agreed to the move, but there’s a problem Inter still needs to solve.
It seems they must sell a player before buying Romero, and centre-back Benjamin Pavard might be the one to leave to make room.
Pavard’s transfer is tricky because Inter want to sell him before his contract runs until 2028, but Pavard wants to stay.
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano said Inter have offered Pavard to Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad and some other teams.
He added on YouTube, “We need to watch the situation with Cuti Romero carefully. Inter and other clubs are interested. I still expect Romero to leave Tottenham this summer.”
Pavard was linked with a move to Manchester United when Erik ten Hag was manager but ended up joining Inter in 2023.
He won the Serie A title in his first season and helped Inter reach the Champions League final the next year, where they lost to PSG.
Last season, however, Pavard was not needed and went on loan to Marseille, playing 36 games in all competitions.
Interestingly, De Zerbi signed Pavard for Marseille, but there’s no talk yet of a swap deal involving Romero.
