NBA legend Steph Curry is set to miss out on a huge amount of money after the “lifetime” contract he signed just two years ago was ended early.

Steph has made a name for himself as one of the best basketball players ever, winning four championships with the Golden State Warriors. At 37, he’s been the highest-paid player in the league since 2017, and this season, he’s expected to earn about $59.6 million.

According to Spotrac, Curry is third on the NBA’s all-time career earnings list, just behind Kevin Durant and LeBron James. Off the court, he’s also done really well, thanks to several big endorsement deals, including one with sportswear company Under Armour.

Steph first teamed up with Under Armour in 2013, and in 2020 he launched his own Curry Brand. Two years ago, they signed a new long-term deal worth over $1 billion, which was supposed to last until he retired. This deal included 8.8 million shares of Under Armour stock, worth $75 million at the time.

But in a surprise announcement on Thursday, Curry and Under Armour said they had ended their partnership early. Even so, the UA Curry 13 shoe is still scheduled to come out in February 2026.

Curry said, “Under Armour believed in me early in my career and gave me the space to build something much bigger and more meaningful than a shoe. I’m really thankful for that. Curry Brand was created to change the game for good, and over the past five years, we’ve made a real difference for kids, communities, and basketball. What Curry Brand stands for, what I stand for, and my commitment to that mission will never change—it only grows stronger. I’m excited for the future and focused on growing while continuing to support the next generation.”

Now that his deal with Under Armour has ended, Curry is free to sign with any sports brand. Before joining Under Armour, he was with Nike. Back then, the better financial offer and the chance to have his own signature shoe drew him to UA.

Steph still seems to fit well with Nike’s values, but it’s unclear if their past negotiations will cause any issues now. Newer brands like On and Hoka are also interested and might see signing a basketball superstar like Curry as a big chance they can’t pass up.
